Unit of Inquiry – Who We Are (August-September 2016)

Transdisciplinary Theme:

WHO WE ARE

An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

Central Idea:

Effective interactions between human body systems contribute to health.

Concepts:

Lines of Inquiry:

  • How body systems work
  • How body systems are interdependent
  • The impact of lifestyle choices on the body

In this unit students will learn how body systems work.

  • Respiratory system
  • Digestive system
  • Circulatory system
  • Skeletal system

They will also learn how body system are interdependent and he impact of lifestyle choices on the body by analyzing the relation between each body system and evaluating their balanced lifestyle.

Summative Assessment:

Students will act as a doctor who is going to help their patient understand that body systems are interdependent. They have to explain to their patient that patient is responsible for maintaining his/her health by having good lifestyle. At the end, students will make an explanatory report to present their explanation.

How Parents can Support

  1.  Providing reading materials (comics, encyclopedia, magazine articles) related to body system.
  2. Having discussions with their children about health-related topics
