Mathematics – Whole Numbers up to 100.000 (August-September 2016)

In this unit of inquiry, Grade 4 students will explore whole number up to 100.000.

Whole Number (up to 100.000)

  1. Read and write numbers which are more than ten thousand
  2. Identifying the place value and number value that construct a number
  3. Write numbers in expanded notation
  4. Compare and order numbers or quantities
  5. Determine number which are some ones, tens, hundred, thousands or ten thousands more/less than a number
  6. Round off number within 10,000 to the nearest hundred, thousand or ten thousand
  7. Addition and subtraction of numbers
  8. Solve addition and subtraction word problems (use model/diagrams)
  9. Evaluate the reasonableness of the answers by estimating result

Multiplication and division

  1. Multiplication of numbers by 1 digit number by using regrouping of numbers in the place value
  2. Multiplication 2 digit by 2 digit numbers
  3. Multiplication 3 digit by 2 digit numbers
  4. Division of numbers by 1 digit number by using regrouping of the digits in the place value
  5. Division by 2 digit numbers

Students are free to choose the methods they are going to use to do addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division aside from what they learn in class as long as they understand the usage of the method and come with the correct result.
